|
The Board of Governors at H. Lavity Stoutt Community College will meet in a commemorative session on Wednesday 10 March at 10:00 a.m. at the Paraquita Bay Auditorium as part of an exercise aimed at reflecting on the history and development of the institution over the past 20 years.
All current and past board members have been invited to participate in the meeting, which will be carried live on the College’s television station, Channel 52. The public is also invited to attend in the Auditorium.
Premier and Chairman Emeritus of the Board, Hon. Ralph T. O’Neal, will preside over the session, which will feature remarks by Chairman of the Board, Dr. Charles Wheatley, himself a former President of the College.
A highlight of the meeting will be a presentation on the growth and achievements of the College by President, Dr. Karl Dawson, for whom an investiture ceremony will be held the following day.
There will also be a tribute to the Founding Chairman, Hon. H. Lavity Stoutt, a moment of silence in remembrance of deceased board members, and reflections on the College’s past and future.
The meeting forms part of the College’s year-long series of activities to mark its 20th anniversary, which is being observed under the theme, “Honouring our Past – Forging Ties for the Future.” The range of activities has so far included a commemorative service, a founding day ceremony, anniversary concerts, and a poetry night.
In addition to the commemorative Board of Governors meeting, an investiture ceremony for the College’s fourth President, Dr. Karl Dawson, an open house at the H. L. Stoutt Memorial Room, and a public lecture are slated for 11 and 12 March, respectively.
HLSCC was established in 1990 as the British Virgin Islands Community College. The institution was subsequently renamed in honour of the founding chairman of the College’s Board of Governors, the late Chief Minister, Hon. H. Lavity Stoutt.
