An investiture ceremony for the fourth President of H. Lavity Stoutt Community College, Dr. Karl Dawson, will be held on Thursday 11 March, commencing at 3:00 p.m. under the Tent on the lawns of the Paraquita Bay Campus.
 Dr. Karl Dawson The ceremony will feature greetings and salutations to the President by Premier, Hon. Ralph T. O’Neal; Minister for Education and Culture, Hon. Andrew Fahie; faculty, staff, students and alumni of the College; the Association of Caribbean Tertiary Institutions, representing the higher education community; the Universities of the West Indies, Virgin Islands, and Florida; and his mother, Yvonne Dawson, representing his family.
Chairman of the Board of Governors, Dr. Charles Wheatley, will also give remarks and conduct the investiture of the President.
Dr. Dawson’s appointment took effect on 1 August 2009, having acted in the post for the period 1 January to 31 July 2009, following the resignation of Dr. Michael O’Neal as President.
After Dr. O’Neal demitted office, HLSCC’s Board of Governors appointed a Presidential Search Committee, comprising members Dr. Bryan Penn, Mrs. Eileene Parsons, Mr. Robert Mathavious, Mr. Derek Dunlop, and the College’s Legal Counsel, Dr. Joseph Archibald. The post of president was subsequently advertised.
Dr. Dawson holds a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of the West Indies in Hotel Management, a Master’s in Educational Leadership from Wright State University, and a Doctorate in Higher Education Administration from the University of Florida at Gainesville.
Dr. Dawson, a former Dean of Technical, Vocational, and Professional Studies at the College, also served as Vice President of the institution from 1 January 2007 to 31 December 2008. He is married to Janice Dawson, nee Rymer, and they have three children.
