The event is being organised by the HLSCC Haiti Awareness and Relief Committee, a group comprising members of faculty on campus which was formed in the wake of the recent disaster in that country. The panel discussion will be held under the theme, “Haiti: Rethinking and Reshaping the Caribbean’s Landscape.”

Dancia Penn-Sallah, Anthropologist Dr. Michael O’Neal, Historian Dr. Katherine Smith, President of the BVI Haitian Association Eddy Fleury, and Planning and Preparedness Manager at the Department of Disaster Management Sheniah Armstrong.
Lecturer at HLSCC and chairperson of the committee, Dr. Jasmattie Yamraj, said the group hopes to dispel some of the negative perceptions that people have of Haiti. “We would also like to discuss some of the possibilities for the way forward, given the recent devastation there, including how to deal with natural disasters.”
HLSCC President, Dr. Karl Dawson, has given full endorsement to the formation of the committee and the panel discussion. He said the College recognises the need for increasing awarness about the saituation in Haiti, adding that the institution is committed to collaborating with the community in such efforts.
