Pipe Completes Sweep of HLSCC Race Series on VG
Maxford Pipe
completed a clean sweep of the H. Lavity Stoutt Community College/Highland
Spring Race Series, as the event culminated with the final run on Saturday,
November 1 on Virgin Gorda.

Continuing his
dominance of the two-mile event, Pipe completed the distance in 11 minutes
31.08 seconds, finishing ahead of Emrol Amsterdam
(11:43.38) and Timon Robinson (12:48.42) in the open category. As expected, he
was named overall male champion for the series.
In other
results, Lavern (Ebony) Fahie completed her third win in as many races in a
time of 15 minutes 47.7 seconds to take the coveted
overall female champion trophy. She was followed by Christina Yates (18:47.87)
and Lilmakeda
Fahie (Harrigan) (19:56.37).
A total of 41 athletes
took part in the event, which was immediately followed by an awards ceremony at
the HLSCC Virgin Gorda Centre, Enid Pickering Plaza, the starting and finishing
point for all the races.
Overall Female Champion: HLSCC Vice President, Dr. Karl Dawson, presents the overall female champion’s trophy to Lavern (Ebony) Fahie.
Speaking during
the ceremony, Race Director and Lecturer at HLSCC, Mrs. Stephanie Russ Penn, congratulated
the athletes who performed outstandingly throughout the series and encouraged
them to work hard so that their performance can be better in 2009.
Mrs. Russ Penn
thanked all the other athletes who took part in the series, as well as the members
of the Valley Sound Lions Club, who served refreshments as a show of support for
the races. She also expressed appreciation to staff members of the College who
assisted throughout the series.
Vice President
of HLSCC, Dr. Karl Dawson, who was on hand to make the presentations, echoed
similar sentiments and added that he is looking forward to even greater
participation on the sister island for next year’s series.
As part of the
2008 series, two more races are scheduled for Saturday, November 8 and
Saturday, November 22 on Tortola.
