Rotary Motivating Teens - World renowned motivational speaker and author,
Lisa Nichols, will conduct a workshop entitled Motivating the Teen Spirit,
hosted by the Rotary Club of Tortola in collaboration with the Rotaract Club of
Tortola. The workshop is designed to empower teenagers 13-19 years old to make
smart choices about alcohol, drugs, sex, family relations and the pressures
they face today. Participants at the workshop will learn new listening skills,
how to limit toxic behavior through self-awareness, how to create new
beginnings, and other personal development skills.This workshop will produce profound
shifts in the participants, resulting in more responsible mindsets, attitudes,and behaviors.
The workshop will be facilitated by Lisa Nichols, an internationally known Life Coach
and teacher, motivational speaker, best-selling author and expert on teen
esteem and personal empowerment. She has personally impacted the lives of over 250
thousand teens and over 1 million adults. Her mission is to empower teens to
fall in love with themselves, communicate more effectively, and make
integrity-based decisions.
The Rotary Club of Tortola is committed
to youth development, and this year added New Generations to its Board of
Directors in keeping with Rotary International goals as well as the District 7020 initiative to establish Youth as
an added avenue of service. The Club's
objective is to expose youths to the ideals of Rotary at an early age, and the
Rotary motto of Service Above Self.
Motivating the Teen Spirit workshop will be held at HLSCC auditorium on Sunday, September 5th
from 3:00pm-6:00pm, with DJ Push-Pop as the MC. All teens between the ages of

Short Course Offerings - The Office of Centres and Institutes at HLSCC is offering a number of short courses. These include Basic Clothing Construction, How to Create an Online Magazine, Safer Building Level I (Virgin Gorda only), Health and Safety at the Workplace, and Business Communication. HLSCC Offers Help for Creating Online Magazines, Blogs
The Office of Centres and Institutes at H. Lavity Stoutt Community College has announced the offering of a four-week course designed for people who wish to create online magazines or do various types of blogs.
Course Designed to Help with Sewing Skills Begins September
H. Lavity Stoutt Community College will be offering an eight-week course aimed at teaching basic sewing techniques and how to construct simple garments and other articles for the home, beginning in September.
Safer Building Level I to be Offered on Virgin Gorda
The Safer Building Level I Course is to be made available for residents on Virgin Gorda during the Fall 2010 semester as part of offerings announced by the Workforce Training Division’s Office of Centres and Institutes at H. Lavity Stoutt Community College.
New Students Praised for Choosing to Attend College
As H. Lavity Stoutt Community College begins its Fall 2010 Semester, the President Dr. Karl Dawson has commended the new cohort of students for choosing to attend the institution, telling them they need to prepare themselves to take up various roles that will become vacant in the territory in the future.
The Workforce Training Division at H. Lavity Stoutt Community College will be offering a one-day Microsoft Excel workshop aimed at helping persons better understand and use the software, whether it is in their office, business or home.
